Gizem SU

Gizem is a journalist based in New York City. She is currently producing a documentary for PBS (Public Broadcasting Service) on Houdini, the world famous magician and escape artist and his influence on popular culture and contemporary art.

Previously, Gizem field produced a photo-essay in eastern Turkey, made possible by the National Geographic Young Explorers grant.  The project followed the Baku-Tblisi-Ceyhan pipeline route, documenting the socio-economic development in the region.

Gizem recently worked as an Associate Producer and a reporter at Worldfocus, the nightly international news program which aired on PBS (Public Broadcasting Service). She reported feature stories from Turkey for this program as a correspondent (The videos are available in the TV/Documentary section of this web site).

Gizem has reported and produced for various international news networks and has also produced independent documentaries. Most recently, Gizem worked as a freelance producer for Reuters TV and Al Jazeera English in New York City, covering the United Nations General Assembly, the financial crisis and local stories with an international angle.

Gizem also worked as an assistant producer for an international affairs news program that aired on CNNTurk in Istanbul, Turkey.

She is fluent in Turkish and holds a Master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism.
